Ascendis Caller ID Text-to-Speech
Support
Ascendis Caller ID can speak the names of callers or arbitrary text if you
have Microsoft's Text-to-Speech engine installed. If you have Windows
2000 or Windows XP then Text-to-Speech should already work from Ascendis Caller
ID and you can ignore these instructions.
If you have Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT then you will
have to install the Text-to-Speech engine by following these instructions. The
engine comes in two pieces: the speech API and the text-to-speech engine and
voices. You must download and install both pieces in order for speech
to work in Ascendis Caller ID.
Requirements:
- Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0
- Minimum Pentium 90 processor
- Minimum 16MB RAM (2M runtime footprint)
- ~10MB disk space
- Sound card & sound card device driver supported in Windows
Instructions: 1). Download download
SpeechAPI.exe 2). Download download MSTTSL.exe
(Alternate location:
download
msttsL.EXE) 3). Run SpeechAPI.exe 4). Run MSTTSL.exe 5).
Reboot
At this point speech in Ascendis Caller ID should be enabled. To
test it, create a new category. In the "Edit Category" dialog, click on "Easy"
for the action. In the action pane, click on "Speak". (If you can't turn
"Speak" on because it is not enabled, then the speech support is not installed
properly. Reboot and try again.) In the edit box under "Speak", type some text.
Click on the OK button. Right-click on the new category in the category list,
and choose "Test action". You should hear the text you typed into the speak
edit box.
